RESTORING THE PEOPLE'S VOICE

Successive governments have created the political disengagement we see today. Voter turnout has collapsed — not because people don’t care, but because they know it doesn’t matter.

Different parties, same outcomes. Different faces, same betrayals. The public sees that now.

And you like it this way.

You like low engagement. It gives you a free hand to pass whatever laws you want — without scrutiny, without resistance, without accountability. You call it governance. We call it opportunism.

Now, you’re circling two of the most serious changes a nation can make: Bringing back the death penalty. Leaving the European Court of Human Rights.

We see the headlines. We hear the whispers. And we know how you operate. You create a crisis — and then you use that crisis to justify what you’ve wanted to do all along.

We won’t let you do it this time.

These are not decisions you are allowed to make on your own anymore. You have forfeited that right through years of misrule. From this point forward, only the people may decide on issues of life and liberty this serious.

PROBLEMS

  • Voter Disillusionment Is Your Creation

You’ve hollowed out democracy, then blamed the people for being disengaged. They’re not disengaged — they’re exhausted. They vote, and nothing changes. They speak, and nothing is heard. You have taught them that their voice doesn’t matter — and now you’re shocked that they’ve stopped using it.

  • The Public Fears You’ll Bring Back the Death Penalty

For decades, the state has not had the right to kill its citizens. But your recent reactionary politics — and your silence around growing calls for capital punishment — has reopened a door that should never have been unlocked. If you plan to cross that line, you will ask us first.

  • You Have Made ECHR Withdrawal a Political Weapon

You kept us in the ECHR after Brexit. Some see that as a betrayal of sovereignty. Others see the ECHR as a shield against corruption — one that helped expose truths like Hillsborough. That’s not your decision to make anymore. You’ve proven you cannot be trusted with that responsibility.

SOLUTIONS

  • You Will Hold Referenda on Issues of Life and Liberty

You will remind the public that they still have power. You will demonstrate that they can shape the country without protest or unrest. Referenda on critical issues are not a threat to governance — they are what real governance looks like.

  • You Will Not Reinstate the Death Penalty Without a National Vote

If the state is going to reclaim the power to kill, it will not do so behind closed doors. It will not happen through backroom deals, soft law, or party platforms. It will happen only through the voice of the people — or not at all.

  • You Will Not Leave the ECHR Without Consent

The ECHR has been used to protect rights, expose state failure, and hold those in power accountable. If you're going to remove that safeguard, you will first obtain a mandate. Not from your party. Not from Parliament. From the people.

You’ve grown used to hiding behind plausible deniability. “We had no idea the public felt this way.”

Not this time.

We’ve said it clearly: these two decisions — the death penalty, and ECHR withdrawal — are no longer yours to make.

You will hold referenda. Or you will confirm what many already believe — that you are not here to serve the public, only to control them.

So be clear. Be honest. Be accountable.

Put the question to the people — or prepare to answer a far greater one about your own right to govern.
