RESTORING THE PEOPLE'S VOICE

There was a time when the people of this country made the biggest decisions for themselves. That time has passed, because politicians don’t trust you to make them. They say referendums don’t work. That your voice doesn’t matter. But that’s a lie.

Consider this: in the 2016 Brexit referendum, voter turnout was 72%, the highest for any national vote since 1992. Yet, in the 2024 general election, turnout plummeted to 59.8%, the lowest since 1923. This stark decline shows that when given a direct voice, you engage; when left to choose between politicians who don’t listen, you understandably disengage.

They tried to make you believe Brexit didn’t work. But Brexit wasn’t the failure—you were never allowed to have what you voted for. You wanted reduced immigration. What you got was fewer EU workers—the very ones who had been proven to contribute to the economy— while the doors were thrown open to uncontrolled migration from outside the EU. You wanted an NHS that prioritised those who had paid into it, but that was never delivered. You wanted the UK to have more control over its borders—what you got was your Navy being used to bring illegal migrants over

They won’t admit they betrayed you. It is far easier for them to convince you that you were wrong to want Brexit at all. They are desperate for you to disengage—because only then will they never have to answer to you again. But remember this: despite everything they did to sabotage it, despite every trick, delay, and betrayal, we still got Brexit. Because when the people make themselves heard, no politician can ignore them forever. That is the power of the people. And it’s time to use it again.

Problems

  • They’ve made you believe your voice doesn’t matter

Voter turnout is at record lows, more and more people are disengaging from politics and feeling as though their voice isn’t being heard. Civil unrest was constant over the summer, with many different groups and people feeling as though they are not being heard by politicians any more.

  • They talk about bringing back the death penalty

Recent, heinous crimes taking place on this island have motivated a conversation around the death penalty. We believe any decision on this matter should not be left in the hands of Government – especially with the current state of our politicians. We agreed a long time ago to deny the State of any right to end our life, no matter what crimes we had done. If the state is going to have that power back, it should be the people who decide that.

  • They might have let it get this bad, just so they could frame leaving ECHR as solely positive

Membership of the ECHR is another hot topic politicians are skirting around. They entered us into this deal without agreement from the people, and now there is talk of them making us leave it now too. We understand the ECHR, specifically Article 8, has been the cause of a lot of issues such as foreign criminals being unable to be deported. However, the ECHR has been vital in providing justice for our own citizens against the corruption of our politicians and media – see: Hillsborough tragedy.

Is it possible our politicians have been so inept, have let things run so out of hand, that they want to frame their leaving of ECHR as a positive thing for the British public? History has proven they cannot be trusted to make decisions that out in our best interest. We must make it for ourselves.

Solutions

  • Referendum

We propose a national referendum, to help the public to remember the power of their voices, to re-engage them with politics, and to remind them of this fact – when there are things we don’t like about our country, there are rules and structures in place that enable us to change them in a civilised manner. We do not need to descend into the instability of other countries that many people flee from, ironically, to come here.

  • Question 1. Should we bring back the death penalty?

Bringing back the right of the state to execute people convicted of the most terrible crimes should be left for the people, and democracy to decide. This will be the first question on our referendum

  • Question 2. Should we leave the ECHR?

Membership of the ECHR, and removal of the protections it grants us, is not a decision current politicians can be trusted to make. This will be the second question.

The people who have been in charge of this country have proven to us with both their words and their actions, that only certain sections of the UK public deserve to be spoken up for. We encourage all of you to speak up for yourselves. Do you know what it sounds like when the Welsh Dragon, Irish Wolfhound, Scottish Bear, and English Lion all roar together? The world has heard it before, and the world trembled. We are here to remind you of the power of your voices. We are going to make sure you never have to roar, just to be heard, again.
