PROTECTING CHILDREN

Being able to protect children is something all competent adults can do. So then why have so many successive governments failed in that regard?

We have seen them clamp down hard on opinions, speech, words typed on social media. We have seen how quickly they can respond to civil unrest. When will they understand that it is their lack of care towards the safety of our children that’s leads to civil unrest?

Us. We will teach them. With your help. We will send a message to all those in governance – protect the children of this island or be replaced by someone that will.

It isn’t as difficult as they make it sound. Let’s spell it out clearly for them once again, so they have no excuse for continued failure in this area.

Problems

  • Soft Sentencing on those who harm children.

Be honest, how many of us sat there terrified that the “son of Rwandan immigrants” would be sentences to just 15 years, or even less? How was that feeling even an option. The public if this country have every right to believe that those found guilty of heinous crimes against children will ALWAYS face the full force of the law. No recent government has ever made a policy to give us that peace of mind.

  • The System Protects Criminals, Not Children

Southport Killer, protective custody. James Bulger Killers, new identities, despite being convicted of further crimes against children. Too many convicted of offences towards children are released with suspended sentences – meaning not one day in jail. And when they are released? Their crimes and misdeeds are clouded in darkness, never giving the public a chance to protect their own children by avoiding the people the government has been so lenient on.

  • Justice is Delayed, and That Means Denied

We have seen the government move fast when it wants to—whether it’s processing rioters overnight or rushing through emergency laws for their own interests. But when it comes to children being abused, cases drag on for years. Victims are left in limbo. Waiting times for child abuse trials have surged, leaving families without closure. How many more children have suffered because the system refused to move? How many more will suffer while we wait for politicians to care? We do not accept that justice must be slow. When a child is harmed, the response must be immediate and absolute.

Solutions

  • No More Suspended Sentences – Prison for Every Offender

If you are convicted of harming a child, you will go to prison. No exceptions. No suspended sentences. No legal tricks. Every offender will serve time.

  • A Public Sex Offender Register – Parents Have the Right to Know

Right now, predators walk our streets in secret. Parents are kept in the dark, unable to protect their children. That ends now. We will introduce a permanent, publicly accessible sex offender register, just like Clare’s Law protects women from violent offenders, and based around exactly the same principles. It can operate by the same principles. No more secrecy. No more hidden predators. Parents and communities deserve to know who is among them.

  • Fast-Track Child Abuse Cases – Justice Must Be Swift

Waiting years for justice is not justice at all. Every case involving child abuse must be fast- tracked. No more delays, no more victims waiting while bureaucracy drags on. If the system can move fast for riots, it can move fast for our children. We will make sure it does.

We are adults. These policies will not protect us. It is too late to enshrine our own childhoods in these protections. But we must do it for those who are children now.

Politicians don’t seem to understand that their failures to protect and defend our children is a big part of what is causing civil unrest to bubble under. We understand they cannot always keep them safe, but they certainly can make sure those who harm them face the full, unrelenting force of the law. No more leniency. No more hidden predators. No more excuses. Why haven’t they? Because they haven’t been forced to in any meaningful way. This policy is it. This party is it. Let all in the Westminster hear the message loud and clear - protect our children and severely punish those who harm them, or you will be replaced with people who will.
